The Process - Today

The methods we use today follow the exact same pattern of creative flow that we established originally 30 years ago: idea to lyrics, to melody and structure, leading to a completed raw song with basic instrumentation and vocalization. From there, we develop a coherent full instrumentation and vocal arrangement plan to transform the raw work into a finished, high-quality demo.
The major change from “the days of old” is in the modern tools that technology has provided. They have allowed us to streamline the transformation from our raw work to a quality demo.
Today, we can input our complete raw melody into a computer program and, through written cues, direct it toward specific instrumentation, vocal styles, and other elements that we feel will enhance the final production. As was the case in the studio years ago, the process is often trial and error until we are satisfied with the results.
And the final results can be every bit as good as those we achieved years ago with live bands and vocalists.
There is, of course, considerable controversy these days surrounding the use of technology commonly referred to as A.I. Much of that controversy stems from the fact that the technology has evolved to the point where an entire creative process can be generated by a program with little or no human involvement.
We may be treading close to the edge of that controversy simply by using A.I.-based tools. But we believe there is an important distinction in what we are doing. The ideas, lyrics, melodies, arrangements, and creative decisions originate with us. We are using the technology as a production tool—not as a substitute for the fundamental creative element of human involvement.
As songwriters, our goal is to get our music heard by as many people as possible. As older songwriters returning to this pursuit after 30 years, expediting that process is particularly important to us.
The technology of today makes that possible.
We hope you enjoy our stories in song.
And with this post, we're also introducing our first album:
